Malta. FOPSIM – Foundation for the Promotion of Social InclusionFOPSIM – Foundation for the Promotion of Social Inclusion – is a Maltese foundation that aims to achieve concrete progress for marginalized groups or sections within Maltese society. Fopsim’s main mission is to promote and sustain employment, social solidarity, youth and active female participation in all aspects to achieve tangible advancement in the transition towards a more equitable society.

The Foundation makes use of a diffuse network of resources in the professional, academic, research and journalism fields.

The main activities of Fopsim are:

· Capacity building: Transfer of good practices and Training sessions for practitioners;
· Research: Cross-country analysis and Impact Assessments;
· Information: Media outreach of project results at EU and national level and Organization of seminars and conferences.

Target Group/Areas of interests:
· unemployed disadvantaged people;
· disabled persons;
· youths;
· elderly;
· diversity and gender equality;
· social protection and inclusion.

Past and current projects:

· DGHAJSA: Training Programme in Boat Making for the Revitalisation of Cottonera. The aim of this proposal is the reviving of a traditional craft that is strongly associated with the Cottonera area whilst at the same time using it as a medium of social inclusion for the disadvantaged groups in the area.

· Sustaining Disadvantaged People in Their Professional Career: a project joining different European organizations, institutions and enterprises interested in enlarging their own experience in adult education and particularly interested in improving the strategy of approaching different people. The aim of the project was to help unemployed disadvantaged people and disabled persons to choice their professional career and improve their professional potential, through the counselling, training courses for career development and vocational training. Fopsim focused his activity with a target group of 10 young deprived persons (aged 14-18) living in rural areas.

Ga.M.E.S. Net (European Medieval Sports & Street Games Network): this project aims to develop and safeguard the traditional sports and games in Europe and their common values within an international context of local development-oriented and to encourage the knowledge and practice of sports and traditional games as a symbol of identity and historical and cultural heritage of a territory.

NewMediaLit (New Media Literacy for Media Professionals): the objectives of this project are to evaluate the role of ICT in the New Media and understand the difference with the traditional ways of communication; to improve the quality of media and communication in European public sphere through workshops, seminars, skills sharing and exchange of experience and best practices of professionals in media and communication; to improve and modernize the media and communication education together with the dissemination of progress and implementation of the activities of it.

Educating entrepreneurs in traditional crafts and arts: this project aims to help people not to feel isolated, to solve problems together by means of entrepreneurship, traditional handcrafts, discussions about problems and perhaps advantages of starting own business. Participants share knowledge and experience finding different aspects of communication, including issues of tolerance, diversity, aspects of culture, differences of business in countries, frameworks for education on entrepreneurship communication and models of business.

Collection of gender equality policy documentation and grey literature in 10 EU Member States: the tender aims to reconstruct the development of gender equality policy in 10 EU country in the last 20 years. It will contribute to EIGE’s (European Institute of Gender Studies) RDC mission of managing gender knowledge, by making available in EIGE’s RDC the institutional memory of gender equality policies and work in a number of EU Member States. Fopsim is collecting the policy document and grey literature on gender equality for Malta.

United Europe For Youth (UEFY): it is a strategic partnership for youth which aims to develop a social learning tool for youth workers-institutions to provide mentoring programs for middle and  high school youth in Europe to prevent early school leaving and regain the ones who are out of system.
